Honolulu, HI

COFOUNDER, CTO

June 2019 - Sept 2020

  • Product Development: Performed R&D and developed products for agricultural and aerospace life support systems. Selected as one of eight (8) teams to participate in the Purple Mai’a start-up competition for indigenous innovation in Hawai’i by designing and initiating going-to launch strategy for indoor expandible edible crop producing device

  • Documentation: Generated technical documentation such as letters of resource support, budgets, work and development plans (Gantt Charts, requirements tables, KPP’s and TLR’s)

  • SBIR&STTR Grant Proposals: Wrote NASA STTR for edible crop production system in microgravity environments in collaboration with the University of Hawaii, University of North Dakota (UND) and NASA Ames. Wrote NSF SBIR and USDA SBIR Grant proposals for plant phenotyping system and a low-cost hydroponic system for expanding species of crop compatible for growth in tropical environments.

  • Intellectual Property Strategical Planning: Drafted provisional patent application, began trademarking process and worked with OIC and external lawyers on IP protection strategy.

  • Brand Identity Design: Created and incorporated Box Farm Labs design language cues into physical product.  Established digital footprint by creating website using Wix and utilized SEO to drive awareness to product.

Subsystem Lead for Box Farm Capstone Project
  • Research and Development: Designed, manufactured and tested first of its kind automated edible crop production device for NASA-funded Martian simulations/aerospace missions at the University of North Dakota in the Inflatable Lunar Martian Habitat (ILMH) on Mission 7B on week-long isolation mission. Performed product development, engineering work and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) on systems and subsystems. Designed and manufactured novel vertical hydroponics system and innovated a bacteria and microbial growth prevention mechanism and a plurality of components for robotic subsystem.

  • Subsystem Lead:  Managed six subsystem engineers by implementing Lean Six-Sigma methodologies into R&D activities and program execution. Performed development and tracking of Top Level Requirements (TLR’s) and generated manufacturing and testing plans.

  • Marketing Strategy: Established partnerships with business entities and secured over $12,000 in grants, products and services as Business and Marketing Manager of project. Generated publicity through news stories across 17 television and newspaper outlets.
